Susan WheelerSusan Wheeler
Vista College Medical Office Specialist
Born and raised in West Texas, Susan Wheeler graduated from high school in 1973. After high school, she married and started a family. In 1991, Susan moved to the Dallas area and remarried her son's father. She has one son and two adorable grandsons – ages 17 and 5. Her hobbies include gardening, photography, sewing and attending renaissance festivals such as Scarborough Renaissance Festival and The Texas Renaissance Festival. In 2004, Susan's husband was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), so she made the choice to leave her job and be his full time caregiver. In 2009, her husband passed away and Susan found herself a widow at the age of 56.
Although she had worked in medical and dental clinics for over twenty years, Susan Wheeler had a difficult time finding a position that would allow her to support herself because she had been out of the workforce for more than five years. She did some research and made the decision to go back to school. Susan chose the Medical Office Specialist program at Vista College. Since beginning this program, she has learned so much about herself and about the importance of education. Susan also has learned it's never too late to accomplish your dreams or to get an education. She hopes that Vista is just the beginning!
